Compass' Progress Reports module can be used to write progress reports, giving students and parents an idea of the student's progress in their current classes. The module is set up so that cycles can be created quite quickly, allowing schools to easily run multiple progress report cycles. With Progress Reports results are entered using a simple drop-down selection for all Areas of Assessment, which are the grading components against which the students are to be marked against. Each Area of Assessment (AoA) can be configured with a different grading scheme, but unlike the Semester Reports module where different subjects can be configured to include different report elements, all subjects included in the Progress Report cycle will report on the same Areas of Assessment.
How your school's reports are setup is dependent on the reporting coordinator at the school. For further information on setting up and administering Progress Reports cycles please see the Progress Reports Administration Guide, which is also provided as a link at the right. Please note you will need the permission GpaAdmin in order to access this article.
When your reports coordinator opens the Progress Reports cycle up, you will see a notification on your home page alerting you that you can now enter results.
The alert will specify which classes require attention. The alert will disappear when you have completed reports for all students in the specified class/es. You can access your reports to begin writing by clicking the "click here" link on the alert.
Alternatively, Progress Reports can be accessed under the Teaching & Learning menu (pencil icon), by selecting 'Progress Reports'.
Once on the Progress Reports page, you will see the classes that you need to enter results for under the Open Reporting Cycles heading. The table will indicate how many students do not have results entered yet for your class under the 'Students Pending' header and under the 'Students Done' header you will see the number of students who you have completed entering results for the class.
You can click on the class in this table to enter results for that class.
Towards the top of the page will be a message from the reporting coordinator about the cycle. This is highlighted in red in the image below.
If your reporting coordinator has turned on the functionality and you're writing reports using the same Areas of Assessment as a previous cycle, you will have the option to populate your reports using the results from a previous cycle. To do this just use the drop-down menu to select the cycle you want to use, and then click 'Go'. This will fill the table below with the results from the selected cycle. You will still be able to alter these results as you see fit. This section is highlighted in green in the table below.
Along the top of the results entry, you'll see the Areas of Assessment as the column headers, with the students listed down the left-hand column. You can enter results for students by selecting a result from the drop-down box. Alternatively, you can use the Fill Down option if your reporting coordinator has turned this function on. You can see it highlighted in orange in the image below. To use the Fill Down option-click the [Fill down] drop-down at the top of the column and select the result you want to give all the students in the column. You will still be able to alter the results for any students, but this can be a quick way of entering the result most students achieved, and then just change the result for the outlier students. Keep in mind that if you've entered any results for the column prior to using the Fill Down function, the previously selected results will be changed to the new Fill Down value.
You must click 'Save' at the bottom of the page to save your entered results. You can see this highlighted in blue in the image below.
As you enter results you may see an Average value is calculated at the far right column and bottom row. Depending on the settings your reporting coordinator has selected this information may or may not be visible to students and parents when the reports are published.
To return to the Progress Reports Dashboard click on the 'Back to Progress Reports' link at the top of the page.
