When all schools are under the same Ancestry network, one CompassLink instance can handle those multiple school portals.
To install CompassLink for this type of Ancestry structure, please follow the below steps.
1 - Install the CompassLink instance on the desired windows server machine and link to any one of the school portals out of all Ancestry schools in normal way as explained in the 'First time Installation' section of the 'CompassLink' article from the Knowledge Base.
2 - Once installed, make sure the CompassLink instance is appearing in the linked school portal and is live by checking the green dot against the instance. A red dot means the instance is offline and not set up correctly. If so then you will need to troubleshoot (please refer to the 'Troubleshooting' section of CompassLink article).
3 - After successful installation, go to installation path of CompassLink on your windows server machine “C:/ProgramFiles(x86)/JDLFInternational/CompassLink” and edit “core-config” file.
4 - Add <School> tag which includes “FQDN” and “InstanceId” child tags inside it. “FQDN” is going to be base school URL of any other Ancestry school which we want to link to the CompassLink instance. The instanceId will automatically be added.
5 - After adding the school, save the core-config file and restart the CompassLink instance. The CompassLink instance will automatically start appearing on the client manager page of the newly added school portal. In core -config file instance Id for each school tag will automatically be generated to link the Compass instance with each specified schools on the “core-config” file.
In case of the migration of the CompassLink set up in ancestry like set up as above. Please make sure that you set up and get running the CompassLink instance for one portal first and then copy the core cofig file from the old set up without instance id as mentioned in Step 4 in the above instruction. After this set up you can start linking thermal printers.
