Microsoft School Data Sync

Overview

Microsoft School Data Sync simplifies class management in Office 365. Using exports from Compass, you can populate your Office 365 tenant with Students, Staff, Subject and Class information for use in applications such as OneNote and Teams.

Permissions

To be able to access the export in Compass, you will require the SubjectsAdmin permission.

For information on assigning permissions in Compass, please refer to the 'Permissions' article from our Knowledge Base.

Generating the Export

Please Note: Before generating the export, please ensure your latest timetable has been uploaded to Compass.

Under the 'Teaching and Learning' menu (pencil icon), select 'Subjects and Classes'.

On the 'Subjects and Classes' page, click 'Exports'.

Select the 'Microsoft SDS' export.

School Data Sync will create classes as Office 365 groups. Teachers can then create Teams, click here for details on that process. If the School Technician wants to automate that on behalf of Teachers, click here for a sample script available on github they can use.

Tip: Use Office 365 profiles to your advantage!  E.G. Profile for Semester 1
