Independent Learning Plan (ILP) FAQs

Independent Learning Plan (ILP) FAQs

Overview

Independent Learning Plans can be managed via Insights or Chronicle within Compass.  Below are some common FAQs that may assist your school in determining how you want to manage ILPs in Compass.

FAQ 1 - Can I have ILPs easily integrated into Semester Reports and the ILPs to integrate input from staff, parents and/or the students themselves?

Yes, by creating an Insights cycle in which you set the ILP cycle to be accessed by the parent.
Insights cycles can be included in Semester Reports (see further below in FAQ 2 for details).

Insight cycles can be set to include responses from parents and/or students, along with staff.  To do this, set your questions and then open access to parents/student in the security matrix.

FAQ 2 - Can ILPs be easily integrated into Semester Reports?

Yes, by creating ILPs via Insights, you will then have the option within a Semester Report cycle settings to select an Insights cycle to be included in the Semester Reports.

FAQ 3 - Can ILPs be easily accessed from a student's profile?

Yes, the best option to do this is to create an ILP template in Chronicle as seen below.

Then pin the entry to the student's profile.

FAQ 4 - Can I send home a formatted letter/email with the details of the ILP?

Yes, to do this use the Letter sub-tab within the Communications tab of the ILP Chronicle template that you have created to automatically pre-fill the template ready to print off or send as an email whenever entries are created for ILPs using the Chronicle template.

FAQ 5 - Can I have an easily accessible place to input my ILP data with standardised reporting elements that are easily crafted for a lot of students?

Yes, you can do this by going to the Semester Reports module (under the Teaching and Learning menu) and create a new reporting cycle entitled a version of ILP and adding the report elements that are aligned with how you want to mark ILPs.
